Let me start of by saying, I dislike the phrase “mom outfit.”

I recognize that as moms we are all different and have different tastes. Some of us prefer to wear black slacks and a nice top for work, while others prefer a chic print dress. Whatever your tastes, I’m going to try to give you some of my go-to recommendations for what to wear to work when you have to take pumping breaks throughout the day.

A nursing top with built-in access is one of the easiest ways to go. There are several styles and price ranges of nursing tops, as well as several different ways to access your breasts. Be sure that the particular tops you choose allow easy access for both flanges at the same time. Empire and pull-aside access work great!

Sometimes you just want to wear a dress. The easiest way to pull this off is to get a nursing dress that has built-in breast access. Some have the obvious “nursing wear opening look”, but not all of them do. Look for one that is cleverly hidden and your style! The Contemporary Knot Dress by Milk Nursingwear pictured above has clever hidden access under the twisted bust that would allow you to double pump without having to hike your dress up or down!

Ok, I totally understand if you don’t want to invest in a whole new wardrobe for nursing/pumping. So, one option is to wear clothes you already have that can easily access your breasts without having to take them all the way off or stretching them out. One option for a top is to wear a button down shirt. Wear a nursing tank/cami under it and your access will be easy breezy!

Again, if you don’t want nursing-specific clothes and want to wear a dress, a great option is a wrap dress. It’s usually very easy to pull aside the tops to access your breasts. It’s also very flattering for most body types.

cool pumping extras (2).jpg

Last but not least I want to leave you with some cool accessories that are not must-haves, but you’ll definitely want them if you can get them! First is a good nursing bra that also holds your pump hands-free like the one from The Dairy Fairy. If you can’t get that, then just wear a normal nursing bra and buy a separate hands-free pumping bra that holds your pump over your nursing bra. The second cool extra you will want, is a stylish breast pump bag. There are several brands that we carry at Milk & Baby and they are so cool! They are specially made to hold and access your pump and all it’s accessories, plus your work stuff. This way, you don’t have to carry a purse, laptop bag and your ugly black pump bag! You deserve it girl, treat yourself!
