I’m a lactation counselor with Ardo. Let’s talk – just relax!

Having trouble with a letdown? Want to increase your milk production? Try these tips to help relax and pump more milk!

Research shows that moms who practice relaxation techniques while pumping or breastfeeding are less stressed. In fact, stress can actually hinder milk production as stress hormones inhibit the release of oxytocin, the hormone that signals a letdown. Mindfulness techniques that encourage a ‘meditative’ state may improve letdowns and a more productive breast pumping session.

Here are some relaxation techniques that you can practice while pumping or breastfeeding to help get your milk flowing:

  • Practice deep breathing exercises to help calm your thoughts while pumping.
  • Listen to guided meditations to help focus your thoughts.
  • Smell your baby’s blanket while pumping! Scent is powerful and can actually trigger the release of more oxytocin, allowing you to pump more milk.
  • And our personal favorite, squeeze a stress ball (or stress boob 😉) to help release physical energy.

After utilizing these techniques, you’ll be well on your way to increasing your milk supply! Good luck!
