Why Ardo?

Ardo Family

Ardo – Founded by the Pioneer of Electric Breast Pumps

Nestled among lush green meadows, lakes, and mountains is Unterägeri, Switzerland, home to the Ardo medical head office. This picturesque setting is where all of Ardo’s breast pumps are meticulously assembled by hand. In the late 1960s and 1970s, Ardo founder, Werner Kraehenbuehl, co-founded the world’s first breast pump companies and brought the first electric breast pump from Switzerland to the United States. Today, Ardo celebrates 25 years since it was founded by Werner, the pioneer of electric breast pumps.

Still family-owned and family-run in second generation, Ardo is a global company providing moms with breast feeding support, products, and accessories in more than 50 countries. Ardo is the leading manufacturer of true hospital and hospital-grade pumps, with more than 200 hospitals using Ardo hospital pumps, and the number is growing daily.

Swiss Quality You Can Trust

With Switzerland being the number one country for luxury and quality goods, we’re proud to say our breastfeeding products are Swiss-made. Precision, reliability, and attractive design are core values of this specialist Swiss company. Ardo products are comprehensively certified and meet strict EU guidelines and quality standards, guaranteeing top quality for happy customers nationally and internationally. Each product is subject to extensive quality control before reaching breastfeeding mothers around the world.

“Made in Switzerland” is our motto. This is reflected in our exceptionally high standards in terms of quality and sustainability. Our suppliers are mostly European-based, which means a short response time in case of modifications or new requirements. We also understand the stresses and worries that parents face. We adhere only to the highest quality of standards and guarantee that all Breastfeeding products are Bisphenol A (BPA)-free, lead free, and DEHP free. This is the Ardo difference.

Recommended by professionals. Approved by mothers.

Ardo breast pumps are recommended by leading hospitals and Lactation Consultants for good reason – they are easy to operate, particularly efficient, and remarkably quiet. For example, 97% of midwives in a recent survey recommended the Ardo Calypso personal breast pump.

As a trusted partner of hospitals and breastfeeding professionals, Ardo has been meeting the highest demands with our breastfeeding products for many years now—both at home and in hospitals. Throughout all of this, mother’s and baby’s needs are at the center of our attention. The birth of a baby is a time of great joy, but it is also a time of major change because the moment a child is born, a mother is also born. That is why Ardo focuses so much thought into developing products that make breastfeeding, and the problems that sometimes come with it, so much easier for new mothers.

Ardo is in regular contact with such professionals and experts as midwives, lactation consultants, and doctors. We are constantly exchanging information so that we can better respond to the needs of our clients. Marliese, IBCLC and Senior Product Manager for Ardo says: “As a product manager, mother, and lactation consultant, it is very important for me that Ardo breastfeeding products meet the needs of mothers. This is why talking to mothers and health care professionals is my priority.”

The WHO Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes

As a manufacturer of breastfeeding aids, Ardo supports the practice of breastfeeding with products of the highest quality and functionality. With our breastfeeding products, we offer solutions to breastfeeding difficulties and treat breastfeeding in a holistic and effective manner. Uncompromising compliance with the WHO Code is therefore a fundamental principle for us as an international company.

The international WHO Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes was introduced to protect the practice of breastfeeding. It governs the advertising of breast milk substitutes, feeding bottles and teats, reducing illness and death rates among babies around the world and making a vital contribution to lowering costs in the healthcare sector.

That is why Ardo meticulously follows the WHO Code and does not promote feeding bottles. We wish to declare clearly and unequivocally that we are committed to our company policy, which observes the WHO Code in its entirety and subscribes to it without compromise.
